Smile Purchasing first harley; financing question

Greetings HD Enthusiasts,

I am planning on shopping for my first Harley this weekend. I am making the conversion from a sport bike to a cruiser. My ideal choice is a Street Glide. My credit may pose a challenge though. I was very sick a few years back and could not work for almost 2 years. Anyway, I am well now and my employer reserved my job for me but my credit is blemished. It's going to take some time to get that back in shape but in the meantime, I can't stop living my life. My Dad who's score is in the 700s, is willing to cosign for me. I just wanted to ask around on here and see if anybody was in the same predicament be willing to share their knowledge of this process or experience. I am in Pennsylvania if that matter. Thanks in advance for sharing everyone and ride safe.

Whatever you do, shop around. I'm sure HD will have an option for you......like a credit card would.

I'd wait until you have your job and credit reestablished .

Harley is easy to get credit through. You may not even need a co-signer. Interest will most likely be high. My credit was toast when I got mine.
Shop around, Bellco is a pretty good lender if you have them there.

Thanks Jeff, that's exactly what I plan on doing. I'll be on vacation Friday and all of next week so I got nothing but time.

If it were me, I would look at used (think private owner), and try to get a loan through a credit union. I just bought a 2012 the same way. It's a great bike so far.

Yeah might be a good idea at least for a little while. Save up a nice down payment during that time too. Not a big fan at this point in my life taking loans from or involving in my financial dealings family members.

How "blemished" are we talking about here?

Honestly, i would try to save up and get used bike once you can comfortably afford it. You can find decent used street glides for under 8k if you shop around. If you absolutely have to scratch that itch now, and i would understand if you do, shop around for a decent used one and talk to some credit unions.

Save a decent down payment and you'll probably have no problem, especially with a co-signer.

But shop around, my local credit union gave me a rate that was a full 2.5% lower than I got offered from the dealership on my used Road King.
