Default What apes should I go with?

I'm 5'10 and thinking about getting some apes on my bike during this winter i need opinions on which ones to go with. I looked at the 14" corlini evil apes wondering where the bars will sit in correlation to my shoulders and how good do these apes look on a softail slim

I think a black set of Todd's 14" Stripper apes would be perfect, and would look better, JMO (these might be 12s, tho).

Why not ask to sit on other people's bikes who have apes to find what you like?

Apes will affect handling and not in a good way. Are you experienced enough in your riding to adjust to the changes without compromising your own safety for the sake of looking cool?

Actually I've found that my Apes give me better handling than the stock bars.
Why do you say that Apes will make handling worse??

Because clearly he has no experience riding with apes. At a certain point ridiculously large apes would be a problem of course, but 14" or 16" apes are fine, and as you point out there are pluses from a handling perspective from apes.

Then there's the fact that riding became pain free once installed apes.

This should be easy, since they're on the vast majority of the bikes today...even on some that look silly with them. And I'm not talking about the cartoon looking ape hangers.

I have Carlini (16" Flying Apes), Wild One Chubby (18" Psycho Apes), and HCC 14" Bagger Apes on my bikes. The Carlini are very well made, but on the pricey side and the Flyin Apes come 1" higher than the measured height. Lots of choices with Carlini (Flyin, Evil, and many more). The Wild One Apes are also quality, but not as many choices and you need to check the width of the bars as some can be very wide. The width on the Wild Ones are 6"+ wider than the Carlini that I have. The width of the bars is something you need to look at in addition to the height. All my bars are 1 1/4", but a 1 1/2" might be something to consider. Ron (I am 6 feet tall)

I'm young but have expirence on bikes, I rode a family members Harley once with 18" apes and that felt just a little to big but I was able to handle the bike just as good as my bike with stock bars. I've looked at pictures of softail slims with 14 and 16" apes I was just trying to get a personal opinion on them before I spend the money

Although I know that apes aren't for everybody, I tend to agree with what you said. I'm 6' and I have 16" apes mounted on 4" risers on my Springer and the grips are about shoulder high. My neck and shoulders haven't bothered me since I installed the apes on my bike. In my mind and after using these same apes for around 10 years, I can honestly say that I can handle my bike better than with the stock bars. Even in town going slow around the corners, going in and around large parking lots at stow speed and elsewhere. Although not every body has the same physical qualities, I'm almost 66 and I don't plan on going back to stock bars.

p.s. OP, since you said that you are 5'10 I think 14's might be just right for you but that will be up to you to make the final decision.
