I knew Harley chrome can be crap but really. I have a 17 Limited M8 with 3300 miles that was purchased 8 weeks ago and i am already seeing rust specks starting to appear on the mufflers and heat sheilds. My ten year old Rinehart exhaust had less rust than this. Not that i am worried because it will all be replaced soon but jeez.

 

Have you ever waxed the chrome?

 

I've never had any issues with their chrome but that doesn't mean it's not going to happen.

Do you wash it regularly, have you washed it at all, do you have a cover, park it in a shed, let it sit outside unprotected in the rain? etc, etc

 

Parked next to the chlorine filled pool, or where other open corrosives dwell?

 

It's not rust, but... I have a '17 FLS. One of the heat shields on my front cylinder pipe discolored after only 55 mikes on the odometer. The dealer just installed the new one last week under warranty.

 

Chrome can not and does not rust. Period.

I have an 07 FXSTC that I bought new in Aug 06 and winter rode it ever since.
Only clean it in the late spring. To date the exhaust system looks showroom fresh.

My 17 RGC has 5,500 miles on it and has been through at least 6 heavy rains while touring. No chrome issues at all.

Until I was 65 I had mostly metrics. From the Valkyrie Rune, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki and others none have had the fit, finish and quality that I have found in H-D motorcycles.

OP - So in a more direct statement - BS. You don't know crap.

 

Lets see a picture. Second are you close to the gulf. That salt water can be nasty.

In my experience, H-D chrome is some of the best in the business. If not the Best.
