Default Search for a specific model/color new bike? FLHP

I'm looking for a 2016 or 2017 FLHP (Police edition Road King) in the dark blue/light grey color scheme. I've heard through the grapevine that any dealer can search the dealer network for a specific bike.

Has anybody done that?

My local dealer can order me one, but he says it takes 30 days to get here, and then he has to hold it on the lot for 60 days because I'm not a LEO.

On the other hand, is there any difference other than the seat and the switches between the Road King and "Police edition?" I know the FLHP used to have a higher-output engine than the standard edition.

The police edition used to be cheaper, too ... maybe not so much any more?

Cheaper. Tach on the handlebar riser. Some different wiring for the police stuff, and switches for them on the hand controls.

Since Rushmore changes, engine is the same HO with oil cooler for both FLHRs and FLHPs.

FLHP never had a higher output engine, just a higher output charging system.

Police bikes are cheaper when purchased through a state bid. chp will order a few hundred and local agencies will piggyback on the state bid. new black and white flhp's were $12,000 15 years ago.

Not true. From 09? to 13, police bikes had the 103 HO. It had a different cam then the standard 103.

Well 09 is not quite correct either. My 2007 FLHP has a 103 from the factory and ABS. All other big twins just got the 96 for the first year in 2007 along with the 6 speed tranny.

FLHP's have the same stock cams as any other Harley...for example the part number from 2007 (new style chain) to 2013 is 24608-07A for the front and 25585-07A for the rear for all bikes. Rushmore's have 25400002 for front and 25400003 for rear. Bikes previous to 07 had the same cams as well.

Sorry

CHP bikes had to have a SE-255 cam installed before they would accept them. Oakland Harley was the state bid dealer.

Cycle trader shows new dealer stock for most dealers. Right now, they are only showing 2 '16s in vivid black are available for the entire country. It's possible a dealer could have what you want and hasn't listed on their site / cycle trader though.
