If I had a dollar every time someone thought my evo dyna was a sportster... And most of the people who mistake it for a sporty are riding Harleys. It'll really look like one once I cut up a king sportster tank for it, should only loose maybe a gallon overall if I'm not to invasive.
The news guy was probably a friend of the seller and was just trying to drum up some attention to the sale of the item. The link says what it actually is and there were never any bids it looks like but why would there be, at the starting bid price listed.....

You might be right. I occasionally hang out with a group riders who all own FLH whatever's. No one mentions my Dyna during chit chat and socializing, like I am some sort of Sportster outcast. Dyna's come up short in the pecking order.

No joke I had a guy at a bar tell me his softail is just a better motorcycle, when I asked why he replied, "because it costs more". All the old bikers I know love dynas as most of them ride one in the 70s and 80s. Last summer though I watched a guy hop off a 2016 ultra, walked up and said "What is that? A Honda?" I replied if you don't know what a evo is you shouldn't be riding that. Its almost sad but they are what's keeping harley in buisness, not old bikers who have been riding decades.
