Default Florida Helmet Law Change

I don't know how many of you read the news on this site so I figure I will repost this article about the Florida helmet law proposal and the guy who's trying to change it.
All Florida riders need to get your voices heard, or you may not have a choice of whether or not to wear a helmet on your next ride.
I am a helmet wearer the vast majority of the time, but it is my choice to wear or not to wear. Don't let these fascist make the choice for you, get in touch with this guy and your own state representative.

Here is the article:

Rep. Don Hahnfeldt has that alcoholic nose going for him. Maybe he should spend his energy working on stronger DUI bills.

How many of those deaths were on other two wheeled vehicles? How of those deaths involved a failure to yield to oncoming traffic (left turns in front of two wheeled vehicles) and how many deaths involved an older (70-80) person. Would love to see those stats. Then him coming from the Villages, listened to all the retirees out there. MI is reviewing it's laws also.

He can introduce all the helmet laws he wants, that doesn't mean any of them will pass or even make it to a vote. My adopted state still doesn't care if I talk on my cell phone while driving, why would they care if I wear a helmet? Maybe this new lawmaker should start with some laws aimed at distracted driving before he starts worrying about my head safety.

Just FYI...

If you're against this kinda law it'd probably be worth your time to write a letter to (or call) your local representative before the thing gets too far. Its a LOT easier to tie up proposed legislation in committees and procedures so that it never sees a vote than it is to defeat it outright.

In the early stages state reps can tie this thing up and never let it see the light of day. Later on you'll have to rely on votes, which may or may not materialize.

Take this little advice for what it's worth. I'm not in Florida and I do support helmet laws, but I understand a lot of folks around here don't.

So are you saying to just sit back and hope that you're assumptions are correct?

You gotta see how people think in other places to be alarmed by this. I was in PA 3 years ago with some people from CA, they were absolutely blown away and bothered about some guy and his wife getting on a bike without helmets.

Same people that think that way are constantly trying to protect us from ourselves, helmets, seat belts, gun control, what types of paint we can use on our houses etc.. etc.. Best to keep an eye on them and make your voice heard if you don't agree with this ****.

I'm still working on getting the seat belt law repealed. After that is done, then I'll get on the helmet bandwagon.

When I lived in FL helmets were required for all motorcycles, looks like they have changed it some.
