Looking for a solo seat for touring. I don't really need to adjust my position on the bike other than a seat that keeps me from sliding forward like the stock one.

Comfort first. Looks second. Removal backrest? And under $400?

Have a local mustang dealer but they all seem pretty fugly.

If you want comfort you'll have to settle fugly. A wider seat covers more surface for your ***, which makes it more comfortable. Use the fugly seat when you tour, and swap it out for a nicer looking seat for when you bar hop. I guarantee you that no one you run into while touring will say you have an ugly seat. And who cares if they do anyway. It's about comfort.

Corbin classic solo. Don't think it looks too fugly like some of the others but is is definetly not a slim sleek looking seat.

You can also look into LePera or C&C seats for you bike. Both make great seats but they're not as wide (and maybe not as comfortable) as the Mustang. The LePera Aviator is 13" wide and I think the C&C is 13.5" wide (C&C has a wide solo version that may be wider). In comparison the Mustang seat is 17" wide. The Corbin Classic Solo os 15.5" wide.

Aesthetically I think the LePera Aviator and the C&C are the best of the bunch. If you don't like the looks of the Mustang call C&C and ask them how wide the Wide Solo and their of solo seats are. They're good guys and make great seats. I have one in leather I bought from them 7 years ago with over 20,000 miles on it and it still looks brand new. Good luck.

I have tried several after market seats. The most comfortable was from Saddlemen.

I did have Mean City Cycles do a modification, they do a great job, fair price.
If I knew about them sooner I could have saved a lot of $$$ instead of trying to find a comfortable aftermarket seat.

Ultimate seats but then I don't care what anyone else thinks as long as my butt is happy.
