I have a 2013 Super Glide. I believe it has stock pipes. It is fairly quiet......almost too quiet. I don't want an obnoxiously loud bike but think it would be cooler sounding if it had a little more bark. Is there a big after-market of pipes? Any recommendation on what to get so it is louder but not too loud? What can I expect to pay for louder pipes?

Prepare to be overwhelmed by pipe choices!


Find a pipe style you like and see if they have quiet baffles if you don't like it too loud.


FWIW I have the Vance & Hines Longshots on my Wide Glide with the standard baffles. The long pipes have a nice, deep rumble. Not too loud, but sounds great when I open it up.


Good luck! Check out youtube for sound clips; that may help. Also maybe go to a bike night or biker bar, and see if you find a bike that has the pipes you want. Ask the owner if they could fire it for you so you can hear the pipes.


I did that to a guy at work who had an Evo Softail with Longshots. I asked him on his lunch break if he could fire up his bike real quick. He was happy to oblige!

 

Pay attention to what other bikes have, when you hear/see something you like, talk to the owner. If you go to bike shows/swap meets/popular bike watering holes...you get a chance to listen to tooooonnnns of different pipes.

Yup factory cigar pipes are boring
Factory also has an upgrade Harley pipe...called "Screamin' Eagle"..
And then the stealership often offers aftermarket pipes...everybody and their mom tends to get those Vance 'n Hines pipes, there are other brands...tons of 'em.

 

I'm trying to decide, as well. There are so many options and a wide range of sounds.

The cheap alternative is cut your catalytic converter out. Vance and Hines pro pipes I believe are among the cheapest full system. Slip ons are cheaper, but I'm all about getting a full system and a tune if I'm going to spend any money.

My buddy has d&d fat cat 2 into 1 and it sounds amazing, but it's expensive.

I have no regrets. V&H Longshots had the look and sound I was looking for. The fit & finish are top-notch. Worth the cost for me!

 

I have a 2010 Super glide and recently added the Vance and Hines Propipe 2 into 1 and could not be happier with the result. At $650 they didn't break the bank and the improvements in performance and sound are amazing. The fact that they do look awesome never entered into it{seriously, that's my story and I am sticking to it}. (o; Lots of choices but since the OP is also an SG guy that's my 2 cents worth.



I did follow up this install with a Vance and Hines FP3 Fuelpak {the bike already had a screaming Eagle air cleaner}, and the ride just got a bunch better. Lost about 30 degrees of useless engine heat, more and smoother power {HP/Torque},and if possible it sounds even better!

 

The Pro Pipe is probably the nicest sounding of the 2-1s I've heard without being obnoxious. Nice rumble.
