Default Electra Glide Over the Years

Electra Glide Over the Years
By Joseph Coelho

The Electra Glide has been a staple of the Harley-Davidson lineup for over 50 years, but how exactly did this touring bike come to be?

Technically. I'm on my THIRD Electra Glide.

I bought my first one ( a 1975 blue and white at Roy's H-D in Pontiac, MI) in 1975 for $ 3995.00.

I bought my second one (a 2000 UC at Town & Country Sport Center in Brooklyn, MI) in 2000 and let's just say that is was substantially more expensive than my first!

I bought my current bike (a 2013 Ultra Classic CVO in Typhoon Maroon at Shiawassee H-D) in 2012 and it was far more expensive than the 2000 UC

Thy just keep getting better every year!

I just got my first one. My friend offered it to me for such a low price, I couldn’t pass it up. I figured I would keep it for a year or two, and then buy another Road King. The thing is, the more I ride it, the more I love it. I think I want another one. LOL

Once you get accustomed to the luxury, comfort, amenities and stability of a touring, it's difficult to go back to a smaller bike unless it's a cruiser or commuter machine.

You'll find yourself putting more miles o a "touring" machine, and taking longer trips provided that you have enough leisure time.

My 2014 Limited is just the ticket for the long trips. Spent 2 weeks in Montana, Wyoming, Idaho back in July and August. With a passenger and luggage.
I'm old enough to appreciate the comfort and things like the sound system, cruise control, fairing. Suits me to a T.

Owned 3 since October 1970...1965 FLH, 1976 FLH and 1984 FLH. Still have 2/3: the '65 and the '84. The '84 sans 32 amp charging system is completely stock. Full restoration on the '65 begins this winter.

I was out in MT, WY, and ID in August myself, on my '17 Ultra Limited. The Ultra Limited is my first (but not only) Harley, and I absolutely
love it!!
