Welcome to the forum from central Texas.

Do you have a 2010 Touring service manual?

It's best to follow what the factory service manual says. It really is.

Never touched any forks or this bike?
Do you have the correct tools?
You have a manual and that's a GREAT Start.
Are you doing it because of mileage, handling, or just because?

Mostly because I hit a bad chuck hole at the end of last season and my front fender hit the crash bar and left a dent so I thought I would start there

#1 I Agree - I'm not going to say don't follow the manuals instruction. Quite often short cuts lead to larger problems.

Bottom out that cause a dented fender?? Sounds like someone lowered the front end without checking travel.

Short cut - follow the manual to access top tube nuts
Remove the nuts and then drain the forks (catch all the fluid - measure it) and the refill the exact amount. This works in a perfect world.

Your world is not perfect and either you don't have the correct fluid level, and or your springs are lowered or too short.
That being said follow the service manual and do it correctly no point in putting effort into it only to do it again.
If I had the issue you did I would also completely rebuild them, not just service.

Tools???? There is a special alignment tool to remove the ignition - makes it much easier
Do you have a wrench large enough to remove the top cap?
Bench vice with some sort of jaw or soft material to protect the slider?

No you will need to remove tubes from the triple trees to remove springs from a bike with a fairing. It is possible to drain and replace fork oil without removal, however it appears you have some other issue going on if your suspension is bottoming out.
