Default What is difference between Road King and Dyna??

I checked specs and found wheelbase is 1" shorter and Dyna is about 90 lb. lighter, probably because it doesn't have front/read guards and saddle bags.
Late models Dynas have headlight cover like RKs have.
What didn't i find?
It would make sense to buy Dyna and guards/bags separately, it would save a few $k

The forks are inverted and wider on the King. It allows for easier mounting of auxiliary lights, a larger headlight, and a wider windshield. The extended frame behind the seat allows for mounting of a bag guard as well. The fenders are wider, longer, and cover the wheel more. If you want to mount bags on the dyna that are as large as the Kings then you have to move the turn signals. Then there's the 2:1:2 exhaust.

The forks are not inverted on a Road King.

The touring frame is vastly different on a Dyna compared to a touring bike. Engine mounting and all kinds of things are different.

What didn't i find?
That they have completely different frames.
That they have completely different engines. (look up "A" engine vs "B")
That they have different transmissions.
The Dyna is a Cruiser
The Road King is a Touring.
But Apples and Oranges are both fruit.

Touring has the same rubber mount A engine and transmission as the Dyna! Only Softail models use the B engine.

The forks aren't inverted from the Dyna? Are those just covers over the tubes to the lowers then?

Buy a Switchback while you can still find new ones. Actually, they're not much less expensive than a Road King.

They call them "Road Queens" for a reason. I owned a new one. 600 miles later I traded it. Hated it. Now I've got an older low mile RKC. If there isn't much price difference, RK all the way.

Can you post a pic of what you are looking at? I don't know off the top of my head that the MoCo has ever sold a Dyna with inverted forks. This is a typical example. No inverted forks there.

To the OP, you've already got your answer. Dyna frame and touring frame are different beasts, and the resulting bikes are different in countless ways, large and small.

Road King has a larger gas tank, and cruise control.

RK = touring, Dyna = cruiser
