For starters, I would make Harley a truly 100% American-Made bike, and not have one component that was outsourced. And I would advertise that fact prominantly. More and more people are looking for American made products, ad it's getting almost impossible to find them.

Fungramps,
What would you say the breakdown of parts would be in relation to local and foreign manufactured product at a guess ?

I'm sure manufactured -vs- assembled is all over the board, but I've heard that Harley has approx. 25% foreign made parts. I doubt Harley would ever divulge the stats though. And don't get me wrong. I think some countries like Japan are highly competitive, if not better as far as quality. Some folks just like the idea of "all American". God, I hope Harley isn't outsourcing ANYTHING with China. China has sent some absolute garbage here, as far as bikes, engines, etc. Think "Coleman mini-bike" and America comes to mind. It's Chinese CRAP. Now days, your Honda engine may be a Chinese knock-off, and they make it difficult to tell the difference.

But I would like to see some limited edition models that were done to look very "Old School". Low bobbers with minimal add-ons, but with all the modern technical advancements.

Just my style is all.

R,

Agreed. Look what Ducati has done with the vintage looking scrambler. I've been eyeballing those myself. Pretty darned purdy!

Two divisions in the company. One producing heritage bikes.. Faithful to old designs. The other completely modern right down to Harley crotch rockets. The goal is to produce the best bikes in the world in each category. Most power. Most cushy tourer. Sport touring.. best engine tech. PERIOD. This requires new people with no preconceived ideas or biases. They won't do it.

Well Looking at the new 750 roadster I'd say Harley's gone back and taken a few pages from Eric buell's notebook defflenty looks a cross breed of buell and Japanese. Dealer even said it's like riding a VT 500 Honda. As I was told the street 500 and 750 was to get bums on seats and scavage the younger metric crowd
