Make an age requirement to ride a bagger. Cancel every single one of the warrantys of hd forum members hahaha. Actually focus on young riders and the bikes that they like.

True enough, but they reached you... they must be doing the right thing.

I've said it in other threads and say it again: Re-tune the Vrod engine for a touring platform.

The other thing Harley really needs to do is get the engineering and quality control and quality of the bikes to match the price. We pay premium prices, even when buying a used bike, the bikes should be next to bulletproof considering how much is charged for them.

I think HD is headed in the right direction...... Maybe not as fast as some would like but I think they finally get it. You can see it with the new models and styling that's being released. Old guys can't ride forever and they need to attract the younger generations and appeal to their styles tastes and budgets in order to sustain themselves. My 1 and only complaint with HD is they need to offer more customizable options for brand new bikes and not overcharge for them. They should let you pick and choose your options just like a car etc. If I want the chrome package cool! But if I want the Blacked out package it should be available and cost the same price. Shouldn't have to pay $100 for black levers etc. etc..........

That's often said on the forum, but it actually isn't even almost true.

I would hope clothing would be much less of a profit center than making motorcycles.

Oh, it is. I'm not sure where people get the fake statistics.

This is from another thread that I posted in:

It's all in the annual reports.

I would get a on new fresh marketing campaign. Get some young hollywood and pop a-listers. Make Harleys cool to a younger demographic. I have 3 bikes in my garage. A pristine recent year Fat Boy gleaming with chrome, a large standard naked and a thoroughly flogged R1 missing half it's fairing. When my 25yo chick-magnet son visits, his girl 'friends' are all over the R1... Surely Jason Derulo can make a Harley more appealing to a whole new market. I might also spin-off a full custom Harley Shop and sell a few $80k+ choppers - just to get some attention. not necessarily to make any money (like the veyron is - an expression).

Interesting that from 2014, revenue from motorcycle sales down and merchandise sales up.

I wonder if HD is hanging on to a marketing strategy that worked great from the mid 80's through the mid 2000's but is now in decline.

I wonder if they need to pivot to another strategy.

There's a big difference between profit and revenue.
