I've heard of a few people comment about jiffy stands on the 2017's doing this. Even those who've ridden other Harleys. Perhaps the jiffy stand design has been changed in the new bikes?

If you don't like it you may want to put one on from a V-Twin and see if you feel more comfortable with it.

For the OP, after you deploy the jiffy stand put the stand on the ground and just roll the bike back a couple of inches. Take a good look at the jiffy stand at the frame and you'll see how well it locks in a notch.

You're right.

Can you imagine the squalling that would go on if HD made side stands like Ducati used to? The spring pulled the side stand UP. So you had to hold it down until the weight of the bike got on it. If you lifted the bike off the side stand it went up silently. A lot of red body work got sold because of those, all because they couldn't master an electronic side stand interlock, second only to Lucas.

Same here. I mainly use my EZ-Up when parking in the garage because it really has to be on a level/hard surface to use it.

Same stand as on my '15 Road Glide. I've had the bike 3 years and it still unnerves me! I do exactly what is stated in the above quote. I have gotten into a habit of looking down and making sure that the lock is in the notch.
I'm totally paranoid because I actually dropped the bike twice early on.

It took me a bit to get used to it. I stopped for a coffee last year came back to the bike and looked at my stand and it wasnt 't out 90 degrees. Scared the crap out of me. I always double check it now.

First time you're stopped on the shoulder of a road that slopes away you'll appreciate that long stand. Trust me.
