Hi from New Zealand...Death Wobble Question

I bought an older bike and during that first season after a few weeks of riding with no issues noted I entered a long sweeping curve at speed.

Speed wobble is "interesting".

After doing some research my bike now has TRUE-TRAK, new motor mounts and a properly attended neck bearing.

5 Years since, no wobble.

I had a bad wobble just one time. I went into a corner where there were fresh tar snakes. It was a little scary but I was going faster than I should have been anyways.

Tires. No one mentioned tires. Not just air pressure, but carcass profile. And fork suspension spring rates. Finally , there's the hydraulic fork oil...

I'm not sure that was what I would characterize as a wobble. More like an incipient tank slapper/highside....

I had a 2012 FLHTK, (less than 10,000 miles), and going too fast in a left hand sweeper, (85 mph +) I experienced the "death Wobble". Luckily I was in the passing lane and was able to stand the bike up and get on the brakes to slow it down and stop the "wobble". I had good tires, recommended psi and the Steering Head Bearing fall away check I did the next day fell with in specs. I pulled the forks and everything including oil level was per the manual.

I hope I never experience that again and I feel very fortunate to have keep the bike upright.

I pushed the bike past it's limits and was the cause.

Are you sure it wasn't a design flaw? Apparently metrics don't do that....

There can be some frame flex in the pre 2009 FLs. I've experienced a bit of it on freeway curves with grooved pavement, but it's nothing like a death wobble. I've experienced death/high speed wobble on an older Honda, BMW and a Triumph.

Yea, the Honda VTX (I owned one) had terrible wobble issues. Turned out to be the OEM steering head bearings being inadequate.
