Default How to clean baked on crude off chrome

I bought a used Tri-glide a few weeks ago and it looks like the thing has never been cleaned. Baked on crude and water spots on all of the chrome. How do I get it off without scratching the **** out of it?

Brillo works the best. Little warm water for the pad. I wipe it down with windex after. Looks like new.

I've had great luck with Easy Off oven cleaner for the really hard to removed, caked on stuff... like melted rubber boots, etc.

Applied to hot pipes it works great and smooth and I've never noticed a problem with the chrome after. fair warning though... don't let it over-spray on anything painted or powder-coated as it will ruin the color almost immediately.

I've used it before as well with good results. What I usually do is us a microfiber rag that very mildly damp, get the pipes hot and spray the oven cleaner on the rag then wipe the pipes off without melting the rag. Once the pipes are cooled off, then use windex to get off any streaking.

As a last resort I use 000 steel wool but very, very lightly and immediately wax. I would look into a high quality chrome polish cleaner. I may get bashed on the steel wool part but when used lightly and rarely I am ok with it.

No no no no!!

Use pure "0000" steel wool with WD40. Gets everything off.

Brillo is too coarse.

gently scrape off the gunk with the edge of a nickel.

I'm surprised none of you posted that.
