My ME 880 with less than 2,000 Kms and I got these cracks on the side.
I talk to Metzeler HQs and they say talk to local dealer, should be covered. I talk with the local dealer in Greece and tells me no worries this is normal age ware as the type is at the end of its life. The US Metzeler tells me warranty till the thread is worn, the Greek dealer Said no warranty due to age......... time to move to Michelin?

And how long have they been on the bike?

Nope, it's time to ride yer bike!

 

Type is 4 years old and 2 years on the bike, still little rubber threads at the corners. The local dealer told me ozon is giving hard time. I have my 9 year old Dunlop in the wheahouse, I see no ozon effects on it.

 

Mine is getting some rot at 7 years old now. Metzeler is phasing out the 880s for 888s so it might be they can't replace it. It's your life if you want to risk it but I would just put a new tire on. The number 1 safety item on a motorcycle is the tires, so make sure they are good.

I really don't care if they will cover it at the end, I am just getting irritated when I get a reply is safe to drive as they don't want to replace.

 

The last time I had my mechanic changed my front tire, he mentioned that the Metzler had a crack running around the middle of the sidewall. This crack go around the circumference on equally sides. I took the tire home because I was going to call Metzler to complain. It wasn't worn out, just badly cupped.

 

When mine did I switched to Avons.

Ozone - well the tires are built to take care of the ozone.. His line is pure BS

You have 4 year old tires with an age expectancy of I BELIEVE 5 years. I think you have a legit warrenty issue but its going to be age pro-rated

If this was my bike - those tires would be off as my skin is worth more then a 500.00 issue..
