Default Head gasket question

Trying to find out the correct head gasket for my 98" bore.

Cometic lists a 3.937" gasket and a 4.000" gasket.

My old one measures 3.967, that's closer to 4.000".
Cometic Head Gasket - p/n C9725

Anyone else run across this, or know the correct head gasket part number for the 98" bore?

Thanks!

Probably better to be a couple thou bigger than smaller, right? As long as the gasket does not protrude into the combustion chamber.

Why not measure the cylinder bore diameter, and be sure?

I did, just wondering if it's ok to use a 4.000 gasket with a 3.937 bore.

I'd go with the 3.937 gasket. While you don't want it sticking in to the combustion chamber one that is recessed from it can redirect some of the pressure from the piston to the gasket.

This. If you use the 4.000 gasket, you'll have a .032" deep recess around the top of the combustion chamber.
I'm sure Cometic would be glad to answer any questions you might have.
