Default Recent non-harley dealer experience

So, i went and looked at a 13 road glide ultra on monday. Bone stock, 10k miles. Its a nice bike. Im probably looking at dropping 1500 for a stage 1 upgrade because it wont hold a candle to my king as far as power. Theyre wanting 15800 for the fltru. Not too bad in my area.

The trade: i offered them my 2001 flhri for trade because i cant justify 2 bikes that i barely have time to ride. The king has 16" wild ones, magnum cables (all with maybe 100 miles) chrome controls, chrome 9 spoke wheels, true duals with vh monster rounds, 95" kit, andrews 37s, full chrome billet collection chrome (grips, both sets of floorboards, pegs, axle nut covers) corbin dual tour with backrests, progressive 940s, and in all its a pretty clean bike for 34k miles and being an 01. Oh, and a pcv. They offered me 3k trade in. I know dealers have to make money but the nada trade on it is around 6500. I told them you cant build that bike under 10 but i know this isnt an investment.

Sorry for being long winded, but just had to share and wasnt sure if they were just crooks or if i could expect that anywhere i go. I usually run the wheels off my vehicles and dont ever trade in anything worth very much

John,
Sounds like they are trying to take you to the cleaners. Out of curiosity, where did you go. I am in western pa as well.

The RG should sell for no more than $10 thousand. Your 2001 is not worth anymore than $3,500. No one is selling a 2001 on the floor, it goes directly to auction where it will not bring much more than that. Don't buy a Harley from a non-Harley dealer. Chances are they got it at auction. You will also get a little more for your Harley at a Harley dealer. Also they have a better idea what they have. They check them out well on a trade in and will have trade in history and in many cases maintenance history on the bike. There is no more "my area" You can buy a bike from anywhere in the U.S. and have it shipped to your door for $600.00.

2013 road glide ultra for 10k with 10k miles? Not trying to be a dick but that sounds like alot of smoke being blown.

From up around new castle area. You may want to try cycle warehouse in butler. A little farther from you but they are an Indy dealer with a huge inventory. All used machines. It's a neat place to go check out if nothing else. Some of their machines have high price tags, but they will work with you. I got a fairly good deal on my softy a few years ago, and while I didn't buy my ultra from them I did see what they had to offer.
they have a ton of parts and shinies as well. Like I said not a hd dealer, but definitely cater to hd stuff.
They have definitely made money off of me over the years and I will shop with them again. Not sure how they value trades though.

Forget about trading and just sell yours outright.

Just did a cycletrader search for an fltru. The new frame bikes under 12k all have around 50000 miles and up. Road kings in my area around my price are at dealers around 9500 and on cl for around 7-8500 in my area. I wouldnt buy a motor vehicle from anywhere other than my area if i couldnt take it for a test drive. Buying outside of my area sight unseen is asking for trouble.

Agreed. I have always sold my older bikes outright. When I am buying a new bike, I want the entire focus my discussion with the salesman to be on the OTD price. Do not need throw other variables into the mix.

I was just in cycle warehouse a few weeks ago for the first time. Ive heard their downstairs and upstairs are even more packed then the showroom. As far as selling outright, i dont have time to deal with that. I work 16 hr days out of town alot and would end up taking a block of days off. Id be ok with taking a 1500$ hit to not miss the work because a week off could cost me alot more than that.
