so i bought a 01 wide glide recently, i am going to do a full service. I was wondering if i should go with NEW FLUIDS of today? or because its older bike, with no service records///maybe use syn blend type of fluids,,along them lines...and last question,,for my brake bleed, on an 2001 model yr..what brake fluid? dot 4? dot 5? thanks again..
The parts person at your Harley Davidson dealership will find the recommended lubricants for your bike. They can also order an Owner's Manual for you. Don't put a wrench to your bike without a Harley Davidson Service Manual.

Maybe for recommended fluids, lubricants, maintenance intervals, tire size & pressure, ect?
If he doesnn't know what fluids and lubricants to use in a bike, OEM is the best place to start, and that information is in the Owner's Manual..

Not saying that it's right or wrong but even though my bike is only 4 years older than yours, I use new fluids and dot 5.

I found all that in the Service Manual.
I've got an Owners manual (came with the bike) but I've never opened it.
Probably easier to find it in the Owners manual though.

First thing I do when I buy a new bike is read the owner's manual while I am taking an especially long bowel movement. That way, I know all the things that can cause death or serious injury.
