last metric I had was a kz 550 back in '89....(don't believe BMW is a metric) had that in between a dyna and my present ride.
to me it's pure perception nothing else...I never had a bike fallen over on it's own........yeah, it's a boring day.
The BMW is European, and most definitely "metric".
I agree...metric bolts ...but not metric perse........metric , is an asian thing, too me. triumphs are metric bolted , but they are not perceived as metric. hence my deranged definition.
My stand doesn't sit "over center" when fully deployed, so it always looks like the bike is going to roll forward and over. It's just the way that particular stand locks in place though, and it's never fallen over in 24 years.
The "jiffy" stand doesn't sit over center on my '03 RK either, I just make sure it's fully extended and then watch it move just slightly and as I walk away from the bike...I even put a piece of block wood in front of the front tire when the bike is parked in the garage, I never did this on the other three HDs I've had.

Yes, BMW is a metric.

I believe most people consider Triumph to be metric also (and they actually are).

Nope, imho , beemers and triumph's are neutral, kinda like the swiss...........they are neither metric nor harley. course there is nothing like a Harley or there jiffy stand for that matter.

That can certainly be your opinion, even if it's not accurate. The reason the term even came about is because complaining about Japanese motorcycles was not a broad enough category. It was originally intended to mean all non- American bikes, which at one time was pretty all non-Harleys.
I accidentally hit the starter on my Sportster while it was in gear one time. I was not on the bike but kneeling beside it and when I hit that starter button I had the intensely strange experience of watching my almost brand new Sportster jolt across the shed floor and run into an old stove that was out there. It never fell over and the kick stand stayed locked in position the entire time. IMO HD makes the best kickstand in the industry.
