I've never had my bike idling when I wasn't on it. And I've never worried about it folding up. When I kick it down, I give it an extra kick forward, just to make sure.

And kicking it, is why it's a KICKstand. Whenever I've tried to "jiffy" it, I've always ended up kicking it.

Not sure why some are so obsessed with the stand not being more "forward" when deployed.

The Harley stand is probably one of the best ones out there, in that it does what it is supposed too.
When deployed, and the weight of the bike resting on the stand it lockes into place and will not fold up.

You can tie a strap on the bike and drag it all over the parking lot, and as long as the bikes weight stays on the stand it will not fold up.

Only when you lift the weight off the stand, are you able to fold up the stand to the stored position.

I have forgot to deploy my kickstand a few times but I've never had one fold up or fail me. I have seen bikes roll down hills on the stand and I've seen a few bikes "accidentally" started in gear and take off on the stands but the stands always held as long as there was weight on them.

Most complaints I've heard about Harley stands are more about the worry they will fail and not actually about ones that did fail.

My only complaint, and I'm sure It's my fault likely but the springs only last me about a year or two at most.

For a properly installed spring, that is not normal at all.

How are you installing the spring?

I always disassemble the whole kickstand, clean it, lube it and put it back the correct way.

I said it was likely my fault because I often travel on backwoods gravel roads( I'm about an hour from your area, or at least the Sirloin Stockade ) and from time to time I'm sure gravel pops up and hits it.

No problem with the side stand on my King. I would like a center stand. Then I get to thinking about rolling the HOG up on a center stand and grin at the deployed jiffy stand.

Remember what it was like hawsing one of my old BSA's up on the center stand, don't think I'd want to try that with an 800+ lbs bike.

bzzzzzzzzztttt! Thank you for playing. I've owned more BMW motorcycles than Harley's and they are most definitely NOT referred to as "Metrics", nor are Ducatis, Moto Guzzis, etc. The term "metric" refers to Japanese labels.
