Default That ill name jiffy stand

Is it just me or does the h-d kickstand ,(thats what it is) named after a freaking popcorn treat is mind numbing imo, not to extend all the way?! This gets me nervous when I idle the bike and it seems like it will shake and collapse on itself. I know they been this way for years, but I would be pleased if it were splayed out a little farther at stands down time. I actually look for the slightest uneven nature everytime I park for fear of the ''jiffystand'' not working properly. Properly ,for me. would be no chance of it failing, too me there is way too much chance for it as it is oem.

The newer ones seem to work but I don't like the way they are set up and hang on the bike. I alway have to dig a little with the foot to catch it and double check it's all the way down solidly.

When deployed all of the way down, once the weight of the bike is on it, the jiffy stand locks in place. It won't collapse unless operator error is involved.

Used correctly, and on a stable surface, the Jiffy Stand is very robust.

You're under no obligation to call it that. Most call it a kickstand or sidestand.

My 2000 WG Jiffy Stand is hidden pretty well when up, and there's no "Jiffy" in finding it. But if I don't deploy it all the way, the bike will topple in a jiffy. Maybe that's what the word implies.

My stand doesn't sit "over center" when fully deployed, so it always looks like the bike is going to roll forward and over. It's just the way that particular stand locks in place though, and it's never fallen over in 24 years.

Before the "jiffy stand", Harleys had a rear mounted center stand which you pushed down with your foot while standing behind the bike and pulling/lifting the bike up on the stand. The side stand could be easily deployed while seated "in a jiffy". Hence the name.

Lots of threads lately about people having problems with the jiffy stand. Most of them are metric riders / converts to HD maybe and are not used to the way HD works?

last metric I had was a kz 550 back in '89....(don't believe BMW is a metric) had that in between a dyna and my present ride.
to me it's pure perception nothing else...I never had a bike fallen over on it's own........yeah, it's a boring day.
