I have one of these...
I also have those leather bags with the water bottle pocket that attach to the saddle bag crash bars and on a long trip instead of keeping a water bottle in there I'll pop the fuel bottle in. |
This is where one of those old style sight glass indicators would be magic. No moving parts,, the KISS system at its finest.

I use my gas/mileage gauge all of the time. I never go by the trip meter because headwinds and tailwinds are a game changer.

Fuel-Lo-range light? I use my odometer.and watch the gauge also.. only once did I have to move my petcock to reserve.. Cant remember how far I went,I made it to a gas station, just remember my sphincter all up in a wad ..never again

Yesterday I was on my way home from Milwaukee and my fuel light came on. By the time I got
to a gas station, my Range indicator said I had 15 miles left. Filled the tank, and it only took 5.1 gallons (FLHTK with a 6 gal tank). So I think they are pretty conservative. |
I have yet to be able to put more than 3.8 Gal in my RKS. According to the spec it is a 6 gal tank. I am assuming that the reserve light comes on when I have 2.2 gals left, makes no sense.

Here's a little gas can made to go into a Harley saddlebag.
