Default The dealer that I walked out on called today!

So as some of you know I went in to the dealership to purchase a new 2018 Road King Special. They had a 2017 leftover and a 2018. Just for a re cap we crunched numbers after I asked what was the best deal they can give me possible. They came up with $22,860 for the leftover 2017 and said the 2018 will be a lot more. So I asked are you sure you can come down lower on that 17? He said no because these bikes are very popular and they have no trouble moving them. So i asked can you give me the 18 for that price? Again he said no that's going to be a lot more. I told them I never pay over msrp. maybe a little over but that's it. they still said no.. So I walked.

Went to another dealership and they hooked me up with a 2018 Road King Special literally fresh off the truck for $22,800 even OTD. Long story short that dealer that didn't want to come down in price called me today and left a message basically thanking me for coming in and they wanted to do a follow up with me. So I called them back and told them about the deal I got. they asked me to repeat it almost like he didn't believe it and then asked me where I got it at? I told him the other dealers name and repeated the price to him. He then said well we would have done better. Then he said ok no biggie..LOL...

Are you kidding me?? You would have done better? When? I wanted to buy the bike that day!!! I swear these dealerships think there God and there the only dealer that exist. Oh well. I won in the end!! So keep this in mind guys there's always a better deal to be had out there and don't settle on just one dealers price!! I hope they eat that 2017 leftover too! Lol... I wanted a 2018 anyway. Lol

Default Curious and somewhat related

I haven't really looked into this, but......
The rumor was that the touring bikes were getting a new frame for 2018, I haven't noted that they had, but I haven't put much effort into finding out.

Since you are a recent buyer, I'd like to inquire on what you know.

Thanks in advance.

BTW, Boo on the original dealer for trying to sour your Hi for your purchase.
They had their chance, and it sound like they are trying to crap into your Cheerio's after blowing it.
Glad that you are happy about it.

Well I just purchased a new 2018. And from what I know they already made changes to the frame in 2017 For the M8 engine and the upgraded the front forks and rear suspension across the board on the Touring models. And for 2018 they tweaked the M8 engine and addressed the 2017 oil pump issue.

Go figure, they just played it off like it's no loss to them... I think a lot of the dealers do have attitudes like you said. You got what you wanted and in the end, that's all the matters.

Like a Ferrari dealer, they put so much premium on their brand. SMH.

The thing is, the dealer is only burned if they don't end up selling to some other guy at the same or higher price they were offering the OP.

And I bet they end up doing exactly that. More particularly, they have made a real money bet that they end up doing exactly that.

Maybe that bet pays off, maybe it doesn't. It's their business to know, and they have more information on the state of the market than any of us, so my money's on them being right.

All of which sort of sucks, but it is what it is. When you negotiate, you aren't negotiating against the dealer, you are negotiating against his perception that there is someone in line behind you who is going to be willing to pay more.

The fact that they still had a 2017 when they claimed that they were selling like hotcakes makes me wonder about that dealer.

In the mean time it costs them money to floor it and their 2018 inventory is restricted.
