Default Ride Planner / Mapping for Smart Phone?

Does anyone know of an online mapping platform that will let you custom map the route you want to take, and then upload it to your cell phone for prompted turn by turn directions? Use your cell phone as your GPS with the custom mapping?

I have used both the Harley Ride Planner and MyRouteApp, neither, that I am aware of, can be used for prompted turn by turn directions from your smart phone. They both have apps that download to your smart phone that can be used to view & edit your route/mapping, they will list turn by turn directions, but will not overlay them on a map with turn by turn prompts on your smart phone.

Thanks,

InRoute or Google Maps. InRoute works without the need for cell service.

I use Tyre and CoPilot.

If you have an iPhone, you are a little stuck because iOS will not let files to be uploaded to the phone. On Android, it's a piece of cake.

I create my route in Tyre on the desktop and save the route as .trp file which I then use Dropbox to transfer to my phone and then import in CoPilot. It's frigging amazing. I have tried A LOT of GPS apps and this is a home run.

The built in HD GPS is essentially worthless unless you are assured there are no road closures or detours. It is impossible to sit at the lunch table and create an alternate route without a laptop.. God forbid you hit a road closure or a detour. The builit in HD GPS cannot be used reliably to edit the route out on the road.

My only suggestion is buy an atlas for the area(s) you plan on riding and place them in your saddle bags. cellphones don't always have signal and can be easily lost or destroyed. As far as an app, I'd like to see one that also tracks the rides/routes you've been on.

Most GPS apps will create "tracks" of where you've ridden. I use these quite a bit off road on my GS.

Maprika is a good one.

The Harley GPS will even record a track.

Right now I see young riders scratching their heads ... "What's an atlas?" :>)
