With motorcycle deaths rising--are helmet laws needed?

Minnesota is already on a pace to surpass motorcycledeaths in 2006-- which was one of the deadliest years for motorcyclists ever. After four motorcycle-related deaths in two days--some people are wondering if helmet laws are needed.
Monday afternoon, Jerome Caron, 64,died after being thrown from a motor scooter in Rosemount. His passenger,Robyn Meddings, 61, was airlifted to Regions hospital; her condition is unknown.
On Sunday, three people died in two different motorcycle accidents.

A man and woman from Bloomington were killed when the motorcycle they were riding on collided with a car in Cottage Grove, the State Patrol said; and later in Carver County, a motorcyclist died when his vehicle left the road at County Road 40 and Highway 25. The victim was taken to Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia, where he died.

Mark Kulda, an insurance industry lobbyist, says the time has come for a motorcycle helmet law.
"The more incidents of death means we pay in more of the insurance premiums and higher health care costs-- because people don't wear their helmets," Kulda said.
Kulda says there is no helmet law proposal currently at the state Capitol.
