Default Tar on Heat Shields and Pipes

I hate to post such a lame question, but I cannot get what appears to be tar off my exhaust heat shields and pipes. I’ve tried the Harley Boot Mark remover, Turtle Wax Chrome polish/cleaner and Mothers. Anyone have something special they use?

WD-40 when the pipes are very warm, let it cool off over night and wipe off next morning.

Not had the problem, but would have thought gas would have dissolved it, once the engine is cold of course.

Lay an ice pak on them for a few, then take an edge from something wood or plastic and they should flick off whole then you can use the turtle wax chrome polish to clean the stain left.

I've heard of the cold work but I have used the "Easy Off" oven cleaner in the past with good results. You have to heat the pipes (easy off chemical reaction) and you need to be very careful to protect areas you don't intend to spray, as it will easily discolor frame paint, etc.

WD-40, 3-in-One oil work well.

I have a friend who owns a bike shop, he recommended "Road Rub" it works great... I think they sell it at some HD Dealers.

I'll second the gas, put some on a rag, let it soak on tar, tar will wipe right off.
