Police Road King or Electra Glide? On the fence.
Hey all,
I need some help deciding on my next Harley purchase. Currently I ride an 07 Sporty 1200, which has provide reliable, spirited and safe fun. Now that I am carrying a passenger I feel that I am ready for a bigger bike.
I have been test riding for the past few months including 3 Demo truck events. I felt that the Road king has been my favorite bike that falls into my 6-9k budget.
The police bikes are really cool and I have found many lower mileage ones that falls in my range.
My dilemma is on which bike to choose, Road King or Electra Glide Police(2006-2012). I have read that the frames and engine are the same, but the fairing and bags are different.
My style of riding is more touring and highway 200-300 mile day trips.
Please let me know your thoughts.
Should I avoid any model years?
How many miles is too many?
I like the fat boy but is it too geared for city?
Thanks.

If t's '06 or earlier, make sure the cam tensioners have been checked. '05s has an issue with valve guides. Do NOT buy pre-'02 EFI bikes
I like my '07. It is the only year with the 96" 6 speed tranny, and throttle cables vs. TBW. They run very hot stock & need to be tuned to run cooler.

If you enjoy long trips, get the Electra Glide. Your passenger is going to enjoy that much more and I think you will as well.
Your questions,
Should I avoid any model years?
Lots of different opinions on that.
I would just go with the best deal.
How many miles is too many?
Always go with the lowest mileage possible. When I look for a bike I try to keep mileage under 20,000 but you can run across that deal with detailed history that can make getting a bike with more mileage worth it.

The gearing is the same if that's what your asking.
If it's about comfort, How fit and how young are you? If the answer is young and fit, that's a great way to go. You can rack up high mileage in a day on a Softail with ease if your in good shape. I know those that do it no problem and are in there 70s so it's really comes down to what you want.
I personally like the Electra Glide for road trips and riding two up.
