Filed under "Things to look out for" -- My wife and I were out enjoying a nice Sunday morning ride on a lazy 2-lane when a pick-up pulling an empty utility trailer swung into the "passing lane" to get around us. Double yellow line, limited sight distance, so he had to speed up to make the pass. As he pulled ahead, the 4X8 sheet of plywood deck on his trailer "lifted off" and cartwheeled over our heads, landing behind us and in front of the vehicle behind us. It all happened so fast, but seemed like slow-motion to me. All that time watching NASCAR paid off, as I steered the bike to the right side of the lane, hit the throttle and drove through the carnage with no help from my spotter. My wife had some colorful commentary for the other driver, but fortunately nobody hurt, no damage except to the trailer, and no other vehicles involved or damaged. Scary enough while it was happening, but even scary-er to think how bad it could have been. Somebody was watching over us Sunday, and probably reminding us to get to church. You definitely don't see THAT every day.

Did the driver even notice that he lost his trailer deck, or just keep going? But yeah, the people who don't make sure all their **** is secure before the drive, are usually the ones who have no regard for anyone else in transit, either...

It's amazing/scary what can be seen in/beside So Cal Freeways:
- ladders
- all kinds of tools
- all kinds of construction material
- cans of paint
- tires
- various car parts
- mattresses

And it all came flying off or out of a vehicle.
