Interesting things at the Harley dealership

This weekend coming up, the dealership where I bought my bike from has a tent sale coming up. Basically, they empty the warehouse of all the junk bikes they have just to get them gone. I was there looking for something on the super cheap to buy, fix up over the winter and flip in the spring. unfortunately, their junk was around blue book prices so it would probably be a loss. anyway, while I was there I noticed two interesting things....

1. you can get an old vrod really cheap. I am talking about under 4 grand cheap. not bad, but the issue is can you move it. Seems as though harley has a fire sale on that discontinued vrod model.Honestly, I like the looks of those bikes. but I am not exactly built to fit on a vrod. I would probably get one just to flip it if the price was right

2. across the lot, they had the indian demo days going on. I was walking around looking at the "junk" they had for sale and notice...NO ONE WAS TEST RIDING THE INDIANS. They could not get enough riders to take out all the bikes they had at the demo ride. There were maybe 5 or 6 bikes there that did not go out. Thats really not looking good for indian. I did the first demo ride and it was a waiting list to ride certain bikes. Today you could walk up and ride whatever you wanted to ride.

anyway, thought I would share that info.

It looks to me like the V-Rod is the new Buell.

I would be afraid they would shut the production down like they did on Victory.
Harley will be around for the rest of my life time.

+1 on fear of Polaris. I was very close to buying a new Chief Dark Horse but got cold feet after researching Polaris, Indian, and Victory. They're great bikes, easy to ride, and better than Harley in more than a few respects, but I couldn't shake the fear that factory support wouldn't be around for more than a couple years. I hope they stay around, competition would be good for Harley. Consumer confidence is a big deal when you're spending this kind of money on a toy.

Sounds like the V-Rods are begging to have bagger conversions done to them.
Also known as the V-Rod Harley should have built.

I know a lot of guys don't like that, but I like it. It makes a lot of sense to have a liquid cooled motor in a tourer. Probably have a lot less heat coming off the motor too. Yeah, yeah, I know the Vrod is a higher rpm deal. But I'd bet it can work well with the right cam(s) and exhaust.

I forgot that was Saturday until around 4:00. No sub-$4k V-rods left by then. Though, in honesty, I was looking for the same thing you were - a winter project - and wouldn't have bought a V-rod for that. Like you said, those things, while cool, don't fit my aging frame and seem to sit a L-O-O-O-O-N-G time before they sell.

That one looks to be forced induction, too? Probably scoots right along pretty nicely.
