SportGlide

Just got a email from Harley on the new SportGlide. Not sure what Harley was thinking with that short miniaturized batwing fairing on it. Not for me though.

I got the email as well, kind of a re-do of the Switchback I guess.

First reaction is I like it. As I get older, currently 63, I find that something lighter has its advantages. But 18 grand is out of my league!

I agree, a re-do of the Switchback. The bike looks better with the fairing off and with it off. The bags look pretty small which was one of the complaints of the Switchback.

Disappointed

I like some others I have talked to were hoping the sport glide would be a little more like the previous sport glide, basically super glide with a fairing. Something that fit the niche below the street glide, a bit lighter and less expensive. Guess I will just keep my super glide, around 20K for the sport glide by the time you ad taxes and all...a bit silly for that style of ride IMO.

I like the Sport Glide. It will appeal to those who don't want a big heavy Touring model. Priced 18 large, I don't think it will attract young buyers, however.

If you want bigger fairing and bags, I believe HD has a few of those in the line up.

Those smaller fairings do cut some wind and those bags will haul a case of beer and some flip flops nicely. I don't see a problem with it. More models = more choices.

I like it...sport touring bike that looks like fun in the canyons...not just cruising in a straight line.

The last time a Glide deserved to be called Sport was the beloved FXRT.

I think the appeal is both the fairing and bags are detachable. That gives a lot of versatility and opportunity for the aftermarket.

The inclusion of forward controls helps fill a void as in 2018 the only forward controls as OEM is the Breakout. It looks like it is largely based on the Low Rider which has mid controls, so that helps differentiate it.

I predict we will eventually see a wide Glide Softail with apes and styling cues like previous generation wide Glide which many people prefer over the drag bar chopped fender wide Glide.

I think HD is just getting started and over time, the potential of the new designs will be better realized. I like this model a lot better than the 2018 Low Rider. Is it a carbureted Evo or Shovel? Of course not. That time has passed and is not coming back. I like the M8 a lot better than TC even though there was nothing particularly wrong with the TC.

Many of the haters were not buying anyway. Just old men that live to complain.

“Complain to live, live to complain” should be the slogan on their bikes.
