Default HD lost a sale

So one of the guys at work who rode a Victory cross country went looking for a new bike Saturday

He went to a local dealer to check out a new road king. Salesman says they will not take a Vic on trade because its a defunct co and they do not put other manufacturers bikes on the floor. Said he should just buy the king and sell his outright.

He went down the road and bought an Indian, Gave him a great deal on a new 17 Springfield.

Gotta say its a nice bike!

I thought Harley is trying to attract new customers?

Got a HD dealer here that will take lawnmowers in trade. Doubt they would take a Victory in trade though!

Well who goes into a Harley dealer and buys a victory? That thing will never sell, I don't blame them.

Of course the Indian dealer took it on trade, Indian and Victory are both Polaris. The dealer probably sold Victorys 6 months ago.

That's the unfortunate thing about having an 'off' brand motorcycle, nobody wants it when you're ready to sell...b.

Um,, I live in Minnesota.
So do you want to give me a different story about Victory and Indian?
Or explain how the first part of your story is just about a bad salesmen?

This. And the dealership has a point...right or wrong.

What did you expect them to do? Even though they may have a small dedicated following, other than for spare parts, the Victories have nearly zero marketability. They would have had to make such a lowball offer, he would have been even more upset. Ya can't make stupid business decisions and succeed.

Local dealer here had a sign that says "If it has a VIN, we'll take it in trade". But, they don't say for how much. Yeah, they'd probably also take a Saturn car in trade, for $100.

Partially understandable:
My dealer will only put HD on the used floor...
But he has a “Used Cycle” shop up the road where he puts all the other “stuff” he takes on trade. (Metrics, boats, 4-wheelers, etc)
If this dealership doesn’t have that, and no auction to send it to, I get it.
Plus being a Vic, he’d be stuck with it forever.

Like another said, they would take a lawnmower. Do they sell lawnmowers? They would do the same thing with the Victory that they would do with the lawnmower.

Think about it....
