Default Mustang Solo Seat has Gap at Rear

Just installed a Mustang Studded Solo seat and there's a gap between the seat and the rear fender.

Is there a fix or adjustment for this?

Background: I bought this seat used off of eBay. It's in great shape, but I wonder if the side brackets have been replaced. Basically, the holes need to sit higher. According to J&P Cycle, this is the exact model for my bike.

Looking into it....

Mine sits right on the fender. Take a good look at the side brackets.

I just removed the side bolts, and the seat still doesn't sit down flush. But.... this is exact model of Mustang seat that fits my bike, according to J&P. The sticker on the underside also reflects the correct model number. I don't like the idea of a gap being there and leaving the battery compartment somewhat unprotected.

So in short, WTF? Did I get screwed on an eBay deal?

Okay, I'm almost embarrassed to even ask this, but..... do some seats actually use the front saddlebag rack bolt?

Looking at this picture:

It looks like if I were to slide the seat back and mount it using the front saddlebag rack holes....

Is that an incredibly stupid thing to even propose, or is this actually done with some seats? It's just weird how that would make it about perfectly flush.

Also, with the seat aligned with the normal mounting holes, there is this much overlap up front:

So, am I talking out of my mind, or do some seats share the front saddlebag rack bolt?

Update: I'll call Mustang in the morning. Maybe they can help.

Just talked to Mustang. They changed the dimensions of the seat over the years, but didn't change the model number. How stupid.

I'll look elsewhere.

Where you have the bracket lined up is the correct mounting hole. I can’t tell you why it doesn’t fit right.

Yeah. No other mounting location would make any sense.

So, I'll chalk this up as a lesson learned and buy new next time from a place where I can return it. It's what I get for going cheapskate. I guess I just assumed that if it's the model that Mustang says fits my bike, it'll fit.

I just ordered another Le Pera, one that should be more comfortable than the Bare Bones.
