Default How's the S&S 110 upgrade kit for 96"

I have a 2011 FXDC. Bought this summer with 12k miles, now has 16k miles.
Runs reasonably good, but more power on the highway for a quick 65mph to 85mph would be nice. I came from a Sportster, before this.
I am considering the (S&S) 110 upgrade kit. Would pay my local custom shop to do the upgrade over the winter.

Have you done this 96" to 110" upgrade on your Dyna and are you happy with the performance, considering the cost?

I haven't done this particular upgrade, only went from 96 to 103 on my 11 Road King I had, but I would suggest that you get some headwork done to support this kit and get the full potential. Also get a good tune on it. Should make for a really fun ride.

i did the S&S 110 and love it. i'm not into headwork and custom stuff, everytime i see somebody say "oh you have to get headwork", i cringe. so i did s&s 89cc heads with cometic .030 mls headgaskets. well worth the money bolt-on. GREAT!!! i later went 58mm on the induction parts.... Ridiculous! i'm extremely pleased. no problems whatsoever. great kit.

Day-to-day is great. it's tame until you rip it. the performance will shame a 110 fxdls no problem....

i did have to upgrade the clutch to a AIM VPC, then i used an SE diaphram spring too... the spring might have been overkill.

cost was about $3500-3700. if you use the links below, you may be able to get the kit and the heads for ~$3000 vs paying 2800 fo the kit alone. then just give it to the shop to install.

Cvaria, what's the difference in what you did for heads and getting some headwork done??? Far as I can see there is absolutely none. And can be done for less than the money you suggested. Interested in your reasons.

1. Determine the time difference between 65-85 with what you have now, and what you'll have after you spend $4k. Remember, if you ever sell the bike after your mods, you will recoup little or nothing for the "upgrades".

2. If you want a rush between 65-85, use the $4k and buy a used Yamaha VMax.
Your rush will be more significant, your HD will be worth the same and you will have a second bike that will be worth close to what you paid for it for a long time.

Speed is a relative thing. Speed on a Harley imposes a criteria that is the most costly for the least result.

Thanks for the detailed reply. That's pretty much what I'm looking for. Looks like you have no regrets for spending the money to get the performance upgrade. My shop will take care of having the heads done, as the larger pistons and compression won't reach potential if the valves are not addressed.

I aint no guru, but if that's all your looking for maybe a better start would be a decent set of Cams. 110 upgrade for some extra highway bump seems a bit over the top.

I'm about to embark on 103 upgrade, but only cause Ive blown up my 96... and the bolt on SE103 kit is actually cheaper than all the stock 96 bits I'd need.

You cringe at "headwork & custom stuff" and yet you got headwork, but from S&S?! Ummm.....what? You could have done far better for less than those S&S heads.....which aren't bad. I guess if you feel better that S&S has their name behind it, then sure. But you did just do what you cringed about....FYI.
