After seeing the prices of other models I don't think cost is really a factor as much as reputation. The so called bad boy image doesn't matter to younger people. It's so funny to me to see people who only ride every other weekend when it's a perfect 70 degrees, and see all the garb is really funny. I mean is it really necessary to get all leathered up to ride to a dealership for free beer. Had a person who works at one Dealer near me ask what Dealer we visit when we ride. I said usually none unless I need something. Seems boring to me to be sitting around on a pretty day when you could be out riding

My FXR in 1993 cost within $1000 of my Heritage did in 2015. Out the door for under $20 including two-tone paint and security system.
Similar price to a big Honda or BMW.
I can enjoy riding any motorcycle but I do like the feel of my Heritage best.
Dont know where you have been but even cars cost more now. Even the big Honda and BMW

This is Harley's biggest obstacle to selling bikes...Harleys were a fad for a while...now those people have moved on to the next fad...leaving millions of low priced bikes out there...why would anyone go spend 20k plus on a bike...when you can get a nice low mileage garage queen for a quarter of that.

While I think it's sweet, the Harley diehards would have a **** hemorrhage if Harley Davidson ever came out with a factory bike like this. It's blasphemy to them.

Besides, Harley keeps marketing to the very group that is dying off, and they would go back to the same old dated playbook in trying to market this type of bike like they did with the Street.

I doubt the moco could even get a sportier sportster right. Look at the street rod and how shitty of a job they did with that. Anyone who would spend the extra 2500 dollars for the 100 lb too heavy street rod is out of their mind. The fz07 killed it in every way shape and form, including fit and finish. Harley needs a miracle at this point.

Harley is changing. They want people other than their solid base. They are aiming for the electric motorcycle crowd, they are aiming for city living millennials, they are going for other demographics.

The garages of the country are full of Harley’s that are never moved. It’s not permission to ride that lets someone buy a bike, then not ride it.
Before women became part of the riding culture, there was no such thing as a "chick bike." Maybe that's part of the issue. Just sayin'...
