CVO is not Custom

CVO is not Custom
I wonder why Harley claims the CVO is custom (Custom Vehicle Operations) when this is the last thing a CVO is
In my opinion a CVO is nothing more than another model, and here is why i have come to this conclusion, after a visit to my local dealership and a local bike show.
No first the major reason I was considering a CVO was for the resale valve / trade in value when I am ready for the future upgrade. Myself like most i am sure put more money into a stock bike than what a CVO is worth, so why not just start with that CVO and not have to worry about taking off all of the adders and sell them seperately to try and regain some of the original investment.
So to that end I asked the following questions when looking at a CVO Limited
1. Can I pick the theme of the bike? (eagles, flames, skulls, ect.)
2. Can I pick the color if I am not interested in the CVO colors?
3. Can I pick the tires? (Realy not interested in Dunlops)
The response to each question was a flat out no, and to top it off I was told to just buy a stock bike and change it to what I want.
Ok so fair enough but I wanted an answer to just one more question because I can not get my head around the entire point of a CVO which is CUSTOM
If I must buy a stock CVO then what is so custom about that???
Maybe Harley can tell me what the big deal is about putting all flame covers on the bike instead of what they are using, because after all every CVO is hand made and is custom right
I think this is back to lets get you to spend 40-50% more for the bike and you will still spend on customising the bike anyways, because we have all had a drink of the coolaid
Honestly Harley needs to wake up and get realistic and see the consumers are smarter and will do more research with the internet than ever before. This is just another reason why they are loosing market share.
I would be more than willing to spend the money for a CVO if I can get what I want, instead I will run my current bike a lot longer because I have spent the money to get it where I wanted it, but have no real value on trade for the upgrades. And I am not all that encouraged to do that a second time
This is not a Harley bash by any means, but I am hoping this may be a bit of a kick in the *** Harley needs to see what it's customers are looking for. And if you are going to claim something is custom then lets do just that

The "custom" in CVO doesn't mean you get to choose paint, exhaust, tires and chrome add-ons. It is "custom" relative to the standard model bike. The paint is unique to the CVO model. The add-ons are chosen by the CVO team. You can still customize a CVO model like you can any other bike.
If you are looking for the ability to customize a vehicle like you describe (choose any paint color, tires, etc) then buy a frame and build the bike from the ground up yourself.
Oh, BTW, it does sound like you are bashing Harley and this CVO thing has nothing to do with Harley's market share.

My CVO model came with the following 'add-ons' not standard on the normal Breakout whilst not comprehensive I am short for time and am sure with tourers you get even more perhaps?
110 engine with low to mid torque cams, twin discs up front, USD forks, CVO paint, axle and swing arm bolt covers, heavy breather, caliper inserts, different wheels, LED lighting all round.
To put it into perspective if you don't like what you see, walk away and don't waste your time gum-bumping about it on here! Build a bespoke Harley-Davidson to your liking, stick it up on a build thread and impress us all!

When HD or any other manufacturer uses the term: "Factory Custom", I always have to laugh and wonder how people buy into that ****. The only thing really custom is the hole in your pocket after HD chokes you for the price of a really nice automobile.
And the term "limited" is also a joke - only limited to as many as they can sell.

Not sure how this will be a "kick in the ***" for Harley when the Mothership will never even know this post exists.
