I am thinking about putting this tire on the rear of my 2006 RK. Please share your thoughts and experience with this tire. I bought the bike and it has d402's on it now just want the best tire I can get for riding in the North Georgia mountains and the occasional trips down to PCB. Thanks in advance for your input on this question.

I had my favorite indie put on a set on my '11 EG last Oct [seems like $450ish installed vs $750ish at HD dealer] before a 5 day trip into your neck of the woods. There is a VERY slight diff in tread pattern and lettering. Otherwise identical to HD OEM tires. Very smooth, quiet and grippy. No negatives. Best choice. Go.

I’ve run the Elite 3’s and now the American Elites. I think they’re a great tire and give me good mileage.

The only tires I will run are the Dunlop Elite series tires!!!
They give vastly superior handling and grip in all conditions to the Dunlop 400 series that Harley puts on their bikes stock.
I won't ride a bike with 400 series tires on it anymore as I consider them to be complete crap and I prefer my skin on my body instead of spread out on the road but that's just me.

The best thing you could do is replace both tires.

I love my American Elites. Best tires I've had on any tourer to date.

I've always run the stock dunlop WWW until this last go around with the AE's. About 1500 miles on them. I like the grip better. We shall see how they wear.

There good tires you’ll get great mileage out of them if taken care of properly.

I must be missing something. I've never had anything other than 402's on any of my bikes over the 30+ years of riding. I've always been completely satisfied and have never had any issues whatsoever. I've always gotten excellent life out of them as well. My last rear tire almost made it 20k miles. If you do burn-outs and beat on your machine, your results may vary.

Is this on a 2009 and up? Because on the older touring bikes, the 402's have chit for life on them. They are a good, average tire for the average rider.

Not sure what "average" rider or tire means. I don't do burnouts, but I wouldn't say that I baby my bikes either. All my Harleys have been softails models older than 09. And I've done many lengthy trips on them, both solo and with wife. But I would say with all the sets I've gone through, average rear tire life is probably more like 12-17k miles. I haven't traveled for awhile on this last set, and I've pushed the safety limit a bit as far as replacement.
