Exactly. They could dominate the electric bike market with that alone. They'd have their competition buried before they even had a chance to get off the ground.

Want to make even more money? License your battery pack as a standard to the other mocos. Charge a ridiculous premium to let the other brands use your batteries, that would then drive the other brand riders straight to your doors if they want the juice.

Too bad the moco is too set in their ways to do something like that.

It's hard to sell sexy when your demographic is old, fat, out of shape, and on trailers.
Millennials are only interested in an app that simulates riding one. Cell phones already vibrate, just get them to leak.
If they go electric, that will pretty much solve the whole "Where to put the gas cap?" thing though.

In your bunghole, of course!

Better think again sir is my advice. The auto makers for years tried to exit that stradegy only to fall victim to it time and time again.

Younger kids are NOT into heavy bikes and electric motorcycles are very expensive to make with lower margins.

The aging Baby Boomers have come and gone and HD has to accept that dilemma.
Polaris is getting a short term blip, they're just as vulnerable to aging customers as Harley is since all they're doing is stealing some customers. It's not any more sustainable than what Harley is doing. Polaris, however, has the advantage of making things other than bikes. If Indian goes Tango Uniform, Polaris still exists.

Let the company shrink. There will be more wealthy 50 somethings. People keep saying the baby boomers are dwindling, but as far as I know, 30s and 40s somethings are getting older too... Keep it higher dollar, you still don't hear people say they dream to be able to buy a GW or Indian. Keep the prices steady, raise the quality. They are the standard, unless you just really love the Indian styling and sub par aftermarket support and dealer network.

One of Harley's huge selling points to the touring crowd is that you're never far from an HD dealership. At least for the most part. So...if you have electric motorcycles with a battery that is easy to swap out, you can utilize your existing footprint as a fueling station. Charge a reasonable price to swap out a charged cell (similar to a tank of gas), and suddenly your electric bikes are viable for going long distances with a bit of pre-planning. It would be like trading out propane tanks. Shoot, the dealer doesn't even have to be open to do this. This also puts customers in your door that would have otherwise bought gas at the station and left town.

Maybe they'll buy something while they're at it? I really don't see any downside to this.
I agree with the theory of your idea, but not only is it too logical for HD to pull off something like that, who tours in a bike even close to what the Lamewire looks like?
