why do people buy new bikes when they can get an almost perfect used one?
So my question is why do people buy new bikes when they can get an almost perfect used one off of Craigslist or at an auction? Sure it is a frustrating process but after searching everyday, sometimes multiple times a day, I was able to find my 2014 48 in nearly mint condition for more than $2,500 less than Kelly said it's worth. I recently started going to police and another auto auction to see what I could snag at a steal. I don't have a very big bank roll which fluctuates frequently which is what caused me to miss this amazing deal on a 2010 Fat Boy which sold for a little over 5K. But if I had it to do again I would have definitely held out until I found a bike at one of these auctions as I would have saved a lot of money.

It depends; there are a ton of reasons. Some just like buying new; sometime the available bikes aren't that good of a deal used - often people need financing, trades etc. and aren't capable for whatever reason of doing it on their own. Some live in areas that don't have a large selection of used. I would consider it for the right unit but often I don't want someone's modifications.

Some people like having a warranty. Others must have the latest and greatest even if it is just a color change. Others are worried that by using used they are buying somebody else’s problems. Still others are leery of buying a bike that may have have been poorly maintained or ridden hard and abused etc. Sometimes it is just an ego thing and bragging rights. It is often easier to get financing on a new bike than a used one, if a person needs financing that is.
Sometimes it just because they can.

Some shop deals and do their own wrenching. Some do not.
Some need to finance and don't want to bother to go through a credit union. While I don't approve, lots do it and it works out for them.
Some don't want somebody elses mistakes in mods, maintenance or dropsies. For example, I would never buy a bike with apes, others look for that. Either way, they might be the wrong apes. Or the wiring or brake lines was done half *** to save money.
Some people like the rush of a new bike. Some like to break it in themselves.
Some prefer to trade in and upgrade to new. They just do.
I look for deals on used Harley's all the time. Craigs list is full of deals. Some are sweet deals, but they just not what I want to ride. Now if I was a flipper, might be different.
Strange to me is why it bothers you why someone else might buy a new motorcycle. I think everyone knows that there is always a deal somewhere, but it could really have a bunch of hidden issues? Some just like the dealer support, warranty for the first year or so.
Too many reasons. We are all happy you saved $ 2500.00 on your sporty. But it is not for everyone even if they wanted a 2014 48 in the color offered.

ive never bought a new car or motorcycle so i couldnt tell ya. Ive contemplated buying motorcycles at the dealership before (used) instead of craigslist....but honestly your taking your chances no matter where you buy it from. Peronally i would freak out buying a new motorcycle the minute i saw a small scratch on the paint. I would rather have a used bike honestly my nerves couldnt handle a new one.
Bikes and cars...new or used you can get a lemon either way.

I tried buying used and couldn’t find anything for a deal. Most people wouldn’t haggle or a dealership was asking just as much for the used one as the new ones in the next row.
I bought new for that reason. Also buying new allowed me to get a better price on my trade in and I didn’t have to dick with selling on my own.
