But seriously, like 'em or not, AMA is the strongest advocate for the motorcycling community. There are still college's in NYS that' don't allow motorcycles on, nor in, their roads/parking lots. AMA fights discrimination such as this and motorcycle only check points. As for noise, IMO it can be fatiguing on 6+ hour trips.
That said, I prefer a little internal combustion rumble to let me know the bike is alive. Just not open straight pipes.

And let's not mention how the squid/wheelie/hooligans are harming the motorcycle community.
So yup, the AMA can kiss our *** but maybe they are looking out for us.

Seems to me the AMA is just pointing out which way the legislative wind is blowing, like it or not.
There have been plenty of news stories over the past few years about the growing noise problem with modified and aftermarket exhausts in cities all over the country. It's not just motorcycles, it's cars and trucks too. In the small town where I live, I can't go through a day without hearing somebody on a bike or lowered Acura or lifted pickup blowing through the neighborhood with the exhaust so loud I can still hear them 4 blocks away. Yeah, those Flowmasters or V&H shorties make your Johnson feel pretty big, but the whole situation is starting to **** people off to the point where some municipalities are starting to push for more aggressive policing and/or legislation on modified exhausts. Who knows if will actually happen, but the AMA is trying to tell us that the anger is real.

Our H-D's are already gutless slugs, no matter what we may otherwise think or how much noise they make. So if they take away our "Eviserator 9000" exhaust pipes what in God's name will we have left? Do-rags? Get back whips? Handlebar tassels? DILLIGAF patches on our vests? Oh, the humanity! Where will it end? :-)
