Making Progress
I took a spill on my bike about 5 weeks ago, going around a blind curve up in the canyons and some rocks and debris had fallen into the roadway. I managed to get the bike slowed down to about 35mph before I put her down on her left side....with me underneath.
Where I was located, there is no cell reception and there was no traffic to flag down. I was on my own.
After taking a brief inventory of the situation, I realized I was worse off than the bike. She just had a passing lamp that broke and the front fender was scraped up pretty good from the asphalt. I busted up my shoulder pretty good and had several broken and separated ribs. Getting the bike upright, with only one arm, took a little effort... to say the least.
I put the bike on its kickstand and gave it thorough going over....yep, amazed it had such minor damage. I guess I was the "Airbag" for the bike in this crash. I sat on the bike, lifted my left arm up with my right hand and grasped the handlebar. I could still use the clutch....so off I went, riding the 50 miles home. It really wasn't too bad except when I hit a bump as the ribs were not happy.
Ended up requiring surgery to pin everything back together in the shoulder....ribs, not much you can do other than suffer for a bit while they heal up.
It's been 5 weeks and I am bringing the front tin to the painter Wednesday and should have it back the middle of next week. Looks like I will be back in the saddle the following weekend.
I have been a grumpy son-of-a-bitch and can't wait to get out for some much-needed therapy. Been spending too much time here in the POD forum
The poor patients wound....but the painter said, "no worries, she will be better than new".
I just had the bike painted about a year back...
thread on that process

I hate to here about your misfortune, but thanks for sharing and really glad your not hurt any worse, (easy for me to say), but we all know it could have been worse, especially if you didn't get her slowed some.
I 100% agree with Bykerlaw in post #4, You the man!
Glad to here of your progress, sounds like your not far from some wind therapy, Good luck!
