Default Dual Sport Helmet

I have been thinking about going to a Dual Sport helmet. Like the Bell MX-9. Has anyone ever tired one. I have tried it on in the store but what are they really like going down the highway.

I used an Aria XD4 for a couple years when I was riding a BMW GS1200. Great helmet. Still have it on a shelf in the closet as a matter of fact.

Dirt bike helmets aren't too bad on the highway if you have goggles and hearing protection, and aren't going to be on the highway for more than an hour. There will be more noise and wind resistance than you'd get with a "street" helmet.

Are you looking at the mx version or the adventure one? If it's the adventure one then they work great! I like the visor on mine and use it daily. I like the extra airflow in the AZ summer but then when it is cold you have to wear a balaclava or face mask to block the extra wind.

Yes like the Bell MX-9 Adventure, the Icon Variant, Shoei Hornet X2 and the Arai XD4

I have one. I like it because it has more airflow in the mouth area. I'd definitely recommend taking the visor off if you're going on the highway. At highway speeds the wind was catching it and pushing my head back something fierce. It also starts getting pretty noisy after 40mph. It was around $150 if I recall.

THAT WAS THE POINT i WAS GOING TO MAKE.

My issue is that helmets with visors are always pulling my chin upward----but if you take the visor off of it, then isn't it the same as a full face? Just asking...........

Close to the same w/out the visor. The ADV helmets have more room around the mouth/chin area, as that area is more pointed than rounded and close to the mouth. This is what lets more air flow up into the helmet.

The Dual Sport helmet thing has started to take off around me. I see more and more people wearing them. They seem incredibly practical in terms of safety, combined with practical visibility. But all the guys who wear them either have full size windshields (i.e. no 1/4 fairing), or no visors. And they seem to love them.

Yeah, I have a Road King with a 19" Clear view recurve windshield. So was thinking the visor might not be to bad at speed. Not sure if I want to drop the coin on it or a new traditional full face.
