The "new" generation: Flip-flops? Check. Shorts? Check. Get-back whip? Check. They don't deserve a Harley.

The shoe fits and it fits snug.

A little education for you.

When we were coming out of school, getting jobs and starting families, housing suddenly shot up 200+%.

Why? The Glass Steagal Act was repealed. It prevented commercial banks from getting involved in the investment banking. After it was repealed by Republicans and Clinton, the housing market was flooded with money looking for loans to invest in. Then you had Barney Frank and Democrats screaming it was every minority's god-given right to own a house. If the banks didn't lift the qualification requirements, they were coming after them for discrimination. It used to be, a bank wouldn't talk to you (no matter what race you were) if you couldn't put down 20%. So the qualifications were lifted across the board. Now you have a combination of no qualifications and lenders with pockets full of money lined up to loan it out.

Now we have your clueless brain blaming us for taking the loan. It wasn't Gen-x that broke the system. It was everyone who couldn't have hoped to qualify suddenly could get a loan with nothing down regardless of their credit, Gen-x was a very small part of it. 50 year old waitresses and gas station clerks were getting house loans. So, per the laws of economics housing prices skyrocketed.

What were Gen-X'ers supposed to do? They just graduated, got married, and now everything costs 200% more? Try to build a family in 600 sq ft apartment? Put your life and family on hold until the market stabilized? The housing bubble went on for at least 10 years with no end in sight before it finally collapsed and screwed us. We were the first victims, now Y and millenials get to deal with a housing market you can't really afford either because interest rates have been kept too low for too long. Have fun with that. Unless they get to raising interest rates radically and soon, you're looking at another bust sitting in your nice house you can't really afford and you're going to be screwed even worse than we were.

what was gen x supposed to do .... I don’t know maybe don’t buy things you can’t afford put off starting a family until you’re in a better place financially instead of as a recent graduate read all the details behind a sub-prime mortgage maybe Listen to Dave Ramsey once in awhile

The people on here generalizing and putting down the younger generation are the same people my grandfather’s generation bitched about the same way (still does in fact).

They just don’t want to admit it. There’s plenty of 30 and under people doing quite well and acting like adults but it’s just easier to generalize and lump everyone together to keep rehashing the same “tide pod eating, video game playing” slam over and over. I love the slam against the younger generation for not knowing how to drive a manual transmission. Considering that they were effectively taken out of production for the most part prior to these millennials even being born must not have anything to do with it.

Need it for being addicted to your phone and/or a stunt rider. Check.

The same Dave Ramsey who agreed with me and said exactly what I did when 2008 went down?

Wait 10 years until the market collapse nobody would admit was coming? Are we supposed to be fortune tellers now?

You just don't get it. Like I said, clueless. Average incomes have been stagnant for 30+ years. You have a white collar job and you're supposed to wait pissing away money on rent while home prices keep climbing way out of reach and the downpayment you saved goes from 20% to 10% then 5%?

You're ridiculous.
