Find yourself a used 250 Rebel or Vstar. Theyre everywhere. Ride the crap out of it for a few months and by August you'll be ready for a move to something like a Deluxe or Slim that can easily be modded to make up for your height. I know a woman here thats all of 5ft and rides the hell out of a Street Glide. She cant flat foot it..shes on her toes when she stops...but it doesnt hinder her. Ive seen her for about 3 years now and it amazes me everytime.

Many will advise against this (to me it's just a personal choice) but you can lower the bike too. I'm 5-10 and have to drop waaaay down to get my **** on the seat on my lowered softail. Just measured, my seat is about 23" off the ground with the bike upright

But, yeah, I think I'll probably start out getting some miles on maybe a Yammy 650 or 950 and then go for the Harley, probably have to get new handlebars and move the pegs and floorboards, but I've always had to pay extra for being my height. Nothing new.
If you had experience I would recommend the Slim...I had a Slim S and it is low and NARROW on the seat area. This is a bike you can get into after you get some experience. Also the Honda Shadow 650 or 750 could be bought cheap these days. Start on those and ride them for a few months or even a year. Then get your Harley that you know you would be rockin on!

I love your attitude on this! Keep going.

Hell, just get an Indian Scout for now. It's a great bike. Seat height 25.3" from the ground. About 525 lbs. You'll feel good riding it and it'll work you up to a Harley if you decide not to just keep it.

Scout Specs

Screw this Rebel and Vstar nonsense. You won't be ready for a Harley even if you spent the next 10 years on those things. Only thing you'll accomplish with those is adding to an inferiority complex.

I second the Scout Sixty idea, bike is light and sits low, think you would like it. I rode one all of last year and if circumstances hadn't changed to where I needed a bike to ride 2 up again, I would never have given it up.

I can't believe I forgot about the Scout. The 1200 was the first motorcycle I ever test rode after getting my license. It is a great bike and I'm sure the Sixty is as well and would allow you to save some weight while you are learning. Definitely a good bike to try out.

The pro riding instructors will generally say that the weight of the bike isn't really relevant. What is relevant is the ability to maintain a vertical stance when performing parking lot maneuvers and at stops. All bikes have the same "feel" standing straight up. To your point, it involves sure-footedness and requires a lower-stanced bike to accomplish that. I had a 2" lowered 2005 Fat Boy CVO with a 21" wheel on the front of it, with a Mustang seat. With my 30" inseam I had many inches to spare with feet flat on the ground. You have many options available to you. Best of luck! You'll get that Harley yet.

sport glide is the answer I new to the HD line up in 2018 - go try it, bet it is the right bike for you.
