What happened with Brukus?

I've been searching the internet for a few hours, what ever happened to this company? They made some pretty nice stuff.

Bone Doc 06-22-2018 07:35 PM

This is the message I get when I go to their website...

Store Unavailable

This store is currently unavailable due to maintenance. It should be available again shortly.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
Give it some time, even a few days, and try again.

Maybe enough people realized that they could source the same parts from McMaster Carr for five bucks that they were selling for thirty bucks? That'll put a dent in a business when that happens.

bagga 06-23-2018 05:56 AM

they don't make anything, they just package the same stuff you can get at any hardware store.

When it comes to their saddlebag hardware, that's exactly correct. Not certain about anything else they market, haven't had a need for it. I guess the attraction comes when inexperienced or unknowing folks are looking on the accessory racks at their local dealership or parts store and see the neat little gimcracks hanging on the wall, they go "oh, that's a great idea", buy and install them, and later find out that some of us have done a little research and figgered out what Brukus figgered out!

When I git it sussed out, I ordered like ten sets of shoulder bolts, stainless steel washers, and U-nuts from McMaster Carr for maybe ten bucks over what Brukus wants for one set, and I've given 'em away to my pals!

Amazon sell what you need?

You'd be be shocked how few people have the common sense or moxie to cross reference or substitute things as simple as hardware. I deal with this daily and most these guys have engineering degrees and are clueless about the most basic mechanical stuff.

I have used McMaster Carr for 35+ years.... when I saw what Brukus was doing, I thought I can find something. And I did! sorry to Brukus, but a buck is a buck!!
I have many parts from McMaster on my bike to replace Harleys feeble attempts.

Brukus has been down for a few months now. Tried to get to their website back in April and it was down. Was looking to get their "bullets" for detachable sissy bar and tour pack. Will check McMaster Carr but just in case, does anyone know of a company that sells bullet style locking mechanisms? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Also has anyone tried the HD locking cam and what is your opinion of it, worth it or not?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that. I have their boot guard. Can't buy that at any hardware store. Was my first mod on my deluxe. Keeps my boot off the pipe.

Fourdogs 06-24-2018 10:04 PM

I have their kickshoe on my 2014 Limited and love it. I've looked to get one for my sister's Deluxe but the website has been down for months now.

I started reading this post and had to laugh:
" You'd be be shocked how few people have the common sense or moxie to cross reference or substitute things as simple as hardware.

How true that statement is (they are only getting worse), I deal with it every day.
I have never been to there site, what did there "boot guard" & " kickshoe" look like?
I made the boot guard for my old hardtail, never chromed it but the black paint held up fine and it worked great (made from scrap metal).
As for fasteners allot of companies skimp and buy the cheep crap.
I picked up a license plate lay down kit on last week and half the hardware was unusable, ended up going to Ace.

DanHappy 06-25-2018 09:00 AM

I was shocked to see how.much their kits cost. If there prices were more reasonable, people would buy it and not copy it as often.

Oh, no, I wouldn't be shocked at all! On anything you're saying! There's a kit I bought from a very well respected forum sponsor recently, and when I got it, I realized that I normally keep everything in the kit in stock, and if I didn't, it was all available for about ten bucks max from local sources. Now, I don't have any issues with the company doing what they do...when you get their kit, you don't have to worry about procuring anything else, and ya know what? To many folks that's worth it!
