Default Cost to Paint My Deuce?

I just bought a 2006 Deuce, as a project bike (picture is in my signature line below). It is a pretty cool bike - a second bike for me to ride around town, but there are plenty of changes/upgrades that I am thinking about doing to it. I plan to spend the upcoming winter working on it. I am sure I will be posting over the next few months, asking all kinds of questions, so I thank everyone in advance for their thoughts and advice.

My question today is about a quote I got to paint the bike. I have no idea what a fair price would be, so I want to know whether the price I was told is in the right ball park or not. It was from a guy in a group I ride with sometimes, who happens to own a small auto body shop. He is semi-retired, so he only works on a few cars a month. I asked what it would cost, to paint the tank and both fenders, not the frame. He told me $1,500. He works on cars, so I don't know if he knows the "going price" for painting a bike. He said the tank probably needs time spent on it to prep it, because there is definitely some patch work underneath the bad existing paint job. I would take the tank and fenders off the bike and bring it to him. If it makes any difference to the price, I want him to paint it midnight blue, with metallic speaks in it.

Be sure to check the inside of the tank for the "liner" coming loose ... Paint jobs fees are all over the board ...

Just off the top of my cracked pinon, I think that is pretty reasonable.
Considering what I've seen others say they've been quoted or have paid.

If your pulling off all the tins and every is dent free . You should be able to fined someone to it for a $1,000 bucks if you keep looking .

Sounds a little high for a one color paint just the tins, but quality paint is high and labor ain’t cheap. Shop around

Get several quotes from shops in your area, and go with a mid bid. You typically get what you pay for with refinishing.

I didn't like the color of my last Deuce either but I have been eating a lot of beets recently.

I was in at $2400 for my last paint job. But it was Specialist Paints color shift paint, a little bit of body work, a brand new tank from J&P that I provided and was not part of the cost (but the painter sent it out to be sealed with Caswell) and some artwork.
Listen to Uncle Larry. My previous tank had a layer of HD Tank Creem that was peeling off in sheets. Local HD service manager had not a clue what to do. I was going to Daytona for vacation in a few months so I stopped screwing around with him and just bought a new bare tank from J&P and handed it to the painter.
