Default Ceramic Coating.... Anybody done it to their bike?

Picking up my 2019 Fat Boy Tomorrow. The dealer offers ceramic coating, it sounds pretty cool. The paint is a denim finish and there's all that satin chrome, wondering if the ceramic coating is good for this kind of surface?

Has anybody here put ceramic coating on their bike? Would you?

Curious to hear what y'all think.

Thanks!

the only ceramic I would put on a denim(matte) paint is the Gyeon Matte Ceramic. DO NOT put a ceramic product on it designed for glossy paint i.e. almost every ceramic product on the market. Dont trust somebody to say "oh, yea, it should work"...and then you ruined your paint. Ceramic coatings are awesome, but there is no going back with matte paint. To remove a ceramic coating requires machine polishing, which will destroy the matte paint.

I have the Gyeon on my 18 Slim in Industrial Grey Denim.

You can buy the kit and the couple of prep products for 150-175 bucks from Autogeek.net. I think I spent 2 hours total on it including washing it.

I use the Gyeon soap to wash it, then I use the Gyeon Prep to degrease everything, then do the ceramic coating. I wouldnt worry about doing the Gyeon Iron remover on a brand new bike. Same with the Gyeon tar remover. But the Gyeon Prep is an essential step. Lots of microfiber towels too.

Awesome. Thanks for the info! Do you coat the chrome too?

I have ceramic coating on my pickup truck. My SGS is black so I've more than contemplated doing it to that as well. I'm not sure if it would work on the chrome or not.

If you're a stickler for having your bike super clean and feel that you'd get upset with an imperfection. I'd say to get it done.

Good advice above .. I wouldn't let a dealer ceramic coat as the durability is all in the prep work and TBH dealers just don't give enough time to allow the valeters to do a proper job .... so you end up with a poor performing coating that won't last.

Some parts of chrome can be done with a ceramic but the temp the exhausts get to would preclude it from being used on exhausts IMO

Read the instructions carefully and see if the manufacturer has done any videos.
For glossy finish ceramics there is a wait time after applying the coating before buffing off.
You also need to ensure the coating doesn't get wet for around 24 hours to ensure it hardens properly.
Some manufacturers have an additional product to aid curing and to help with the buffing off.
You can see why there is a whole industry of detailers that specialise in doing this, what with the cleaning, paint defect correction (polishing) and preparation stages.

The VHT I applied to my chrome Softail pipes didn't take long to look like ****.

Cerekote is what I've been thinking about whenever I get around to it.

Curious to see what everyone is using.

The ceramic coating on my bike is great. Just got my wife's mustang done. $$$$ but worth it.

I have done a ton of coatings on cars, trucks, my bike and a couple others. Coatings are not for everyone and they are not bulletproof. Proper washing and drying techniques are a must.
Ive used a lot of coatings in the last 5 years. All of them have their pros and cons. I want to try Feynlab's coating, that would be perfect for a bike.
Right now I have Polish Angel Cosmic with High gloss topping it. Very easy to apply and it is the glossiest combo I have used. It adds more to the look then any other LSP I have used, and there has been a ton of them in 10+ yrs of doing it.
Matte finish is a different animal though.
