Default Add my Road King to the dead compensator club.

Freakin' Harley and their garbage compensators.
I had read that my '13 had an upgraded compesator from previous years (and it does), but I also found out that my unit had also been superceded by yet another "better" unit. Sure enough, I started developing the dreaded shut down knock, and last week it started making noise even at idle. Not EVEN wanting to mess with it, I dropped it off am my local Indy. He's got me covered, but that's just an annoying pile of change to spend on a bike with 25k on the O.D.O.. And no, I opted to get the upgraded MOCO comp rather than the Baker..... Hope I didn't burn myself.
Sorry, rant over.

I'm finding more and more that the compensators that fail also have a crank with more than .005" runout. I'm not saying this is what's causing it but I keep hearing it. We'll be here if your new one goes kaputt.

I couldn't tell you. You are pretty much the guru of compensators, so I'm paying attention to your wisdom. If this repair fails, as soon as I kill myself, I'm calling Baker!

Valid point. I have ran many a belt drive, but I just can't bear to change my AE Road King that drastically. Just can't do it.

Sorry, no patches in this club, we just all hang out at the dealer and randomly throw money at them. It's not all that great of a club.

For my ‘12 TriGlide, My dealer replaced my OEM Compensator with a SE Compensator at 15,000 miles. The started making a racket 7,000 miles later. I put in a Baker, and it’s been fine for 20,000 miles.

Next thing you know some do-gooder will come along and want to ban semi-automatic wallets. Then what are we going to do?

at least you're on top of it....I put my head in the sand when I got knocking on my 05 FXST and the loose compensator chewed up the splines on the crankshaft, causing an eventual engine rebuild

Yikes! Sorry to hear that.
I sprung for a new clutch as well. Normally something that should have lasted 3 times longer. But a month or so I go stuck on a Sunday night riding back from West Virginia with a stripped shifter shaft and no tools. Got it in 4th gear and limped home. But more times than I can remember, I roasted it silly at lights and stop signs. The Indy saw the burnt plates and I'm adding that to the bill. Even thought the clutch was still operating as normal, who knows how much longer. Though I'm no were near your engine bill, the bill keeps getting bigger and bigger.
