Default Hole in oil pan

Hello, see attached picture friend just bought 15 ultra with 2800 miles, was riding Saturday heard clattering, pulled over oil light on and oil pouring out from the bottom. My friend called me up to come and look at and bring trailer, checked everything out, then found this hole in oil pan, anyone ever seen or heard of

hole in oil pan.
this thanks.

Something went through the pan at a good velocity. Makes one wonder if the previous owner knew about this time bomb. Cheap patch and sold it. Almost makes one create a skid plate and mount it to deflect pieces coming up to the pan. He's lucky he didn't go down with oil on the back tire.

You're not kidding! Strange place for a hole. It doesn't look like it was damaged by a lift, either.

I'm thinking there may be a little more to this story.

Something kicked up off the road, one member in here posted a picture of punch he'd hit that had gone through the crossover pipe underneath and the end stopped just short of the pan, was ugly.

OP buddy did good not going down with that mess, going to be interesting to see what goes on when it's pulled.

Close it temporarily, fill it with oil. Start the engine let the oil all go around for a while.
Drain the oil, if you don't find any metal pieces in the drained oil. Like @Kingglide549 stated, bring to workshop and weld it. Poor new oil in and enjoy it.
If you find pieces, you will be better off to split the case and get it properly cleaned out.

Looks like somebody took a shot at it. I bet that back tire got a little squirrley try to stop.
